Gallery > Landscapes

I first took classes in watercolor thirty years ago. The classes were conducted on sites within a half hour of my home and they were in the out of doors. Painting ‘en plein air’ was normal for me; I learned about the landscape by experiencing it. Classes were held indoors when there was snow on the ground.

The more time that I spent painting outdoors, the more fascinated I became with my surroundings. I began to notice the light and what it does to the atmosphere, what it does to the edges of shapes, and what it does to the color temperature.

The light as it travels across the water and land became the subject of the watercolors. Only occasionally does a building or fence appear in my paintings I imagine myself as the first person to see these scenes. As an artist, I am interested in the senses of sight, sound, texture, and smell. As I visually walk through these landscapes, my wish is to be able to portray these senses in my paintings.
