Gallery > Flowers

The flower is a traditional subject for painters; their forms and colors are irresistible. My interest in the flower became more passionate after a stay in Tahiti where even the air has a light floral perfume. Each day, there was a new splash of color to be found – at the side of the road, in a bush, high in a tree, behind someone’s ear or on the dress of a Tahitian woman. I fell in love with the flower.

My fascination with the flower can be found in its colors, patterns, and varied shapes. As can be seen in the gallery, a sizable proportion of the flowers are large “showy’ flowers, often a single bloom to a stem. There are also a few blossoms with innumerable petals that I have painted in close up views. I was attracted by the subtle color changes, often analogous and sometimes a complementary contrast. However, my great love can be found in the showy flowers with curvy petals and saturated colors. I love to occupy the painting ground with the subject creating a ‘bee’s eye view’.
