Tip of the Month - August 2002
This month's 'tip' is a demonstration of the methods used in some of my counter-light landscapes. After lightly sketching in the composition, I applied a yellow and yellow-orange wash in liquid acrylic.
The areas of light were masked with liquid drawing gum.
When these areas were dry, I applied watercolor washes of intense colors. These washes were loose and spontaneous. |
After these washes were dry, I continued splattering with the same colors. This created a variety of values and textures. I made several splattered washes to deepen the color and value.
When the values appeared correct, I removed the art gum. |
Leaving the painting to rest for several hours, I was able to judge if more darks were required. Additional fine branches were added at this time. PATH TO THE MEADOW was born.
AUTUMNLIGHT II was created in a similar way, but on canvas.
