Tip of the Month - July 2001

Make a color wheel and discover
more ways to make beautiful grays.
The color wheel should contain
no grays,browns,or blacks.

My color wheel is made from 12 pure colors-primaries, secondaries,& intermediates. If you looked at my palette on June's tip page, you would have seen that I have more than 12 colors. The remainder of the colors on my palette can be found in spaces amongst the 12 colors on my color wheel.

Remember, gray contains the 3 primaries. If I choose 2 colors opposite one another on the color wheel (complements), they should contain the 3 primaries, eg. blue(primary) + orange(yellow + red).

By varying the quantities in the complementary mix, you will have a semi-neutral color.

Try various complementary mixes with your personal color wheel to make beautiful grays & semi-neutrals.
