Tip of the Month - June 2003

The soft greens of spring are at their peak, but not for long.
Within a month's time, the fully saturated, heavy-bodied greens of summer will be here.

When creating greens, I work with a variety of yellows and blues.

Winsor Yellow with

Cobalt Blue     Antwerp Blue     Indigo     Ultramarine Blue

Cadmium yellow with

Cobalt Blue     Antwerp Blue     Indigo     Ultramarine Blue

I also work with ready-made warm (yellow) greens and cool (blue) greens.

Hooker's Green      Sap Green     Thalo Green

These greens have an artificial appearance.
I alter them with cool yellow or warm yellow
or cool blue or warm blue or warm red or cool red.

Hooker's Green with

Winsor Yellow, Cadmium Yellow, Antwerp Blue, Ultramarine Blue, Cadmium Red, Alizarin

Sap green with

Winsor Yellow, Cadmium Yellow, Antwerp Blue, Ultramarine Blue, Cadmium Red, Alizarin

Thalo Green with

Take a warm green and mix it with each of the colors on your palette.

Now replace the warm green with a cool green and do the same exercise.
