Tip of the Month - May 2002

To the left, you will see a cool dark. To the right, you will see a warm dark. Upon looking at these darks, you will notice that they appear flat.

By allowing some light to show in the cool dark, a feeling of space becomes more evident. The same principle applies in the warm dark. To be remembered: IN DARK THERE IS LIGHT.

In the dark that you have created, try adding a color (different than the color of the dark) into the dark and still wet color. This lighter color will represent the light. In the cool dark, I have added a violet. In the warm dark, I added the same violet.

Another point to remember, IN COOL THERE IS WARM; IN WARM THERE IS COOL. In the visual to the left, I have added warm light into the cool dark. In the visual to the right, I have added cool light to the warm dark.
