Virtually Violet

I was looking at some photos that I had taken at an Orchid Show in Sarasota last January and I came across this particular orchid. The challenge would be to paint a variety of red-violets and still maintain a feeling of light on the surface of the flower. Red- violet and blue-violet can be difficult colors to paint. If I use the color directly from the tube, the image will be lifeless. I decided that yellow-greens would be helpful as a complementary background. You can see more about the process of painting violets in the OCTOBER TIP PAGE.
