Two by Two

The anthurium is a simple form, but I find it can be difficult to paint. I see these wonderful flowers in the greenhouse at Selby Gardens every January. I wanted the reds to be so intense that they almost hurt the eyes. That is the reason that I decided to paint them in transparent washes of warm & cool red acrylics & I further exagerated the effect by painting the background in a desaturated red. The white is the white of the paper. As for the title, I always seem to see these flowers in pairs.

Dimensions: 22 x 30
