Every spring I take some sunflower seeds and spread them randomly in my garden. They grow throughout the summer months gradually becoming taller and taller. When the bloom breaks out in late august, the plants are six feet tall. The flower is the size of a dinner plate. As the flower ripens, birds and squirels visit for a gourmet feast. Seeds fall to the ground and the cycle starts again.
