Red, Rose & Crimson

In January, I visit the Marie Selby Botanical Gardens in Sarasota, Florida. The orchid greenhouse is a marvel. This cattleya is one example. I decided to place the orchid at the top of the work hanging in space. Some of these wonders are so large that they do droop over in this way. The color was so red that I knew that I would have to use transparent acrylic washes to acheive the intensity. Cadmium red, permanent rose, and alizarin crimson are among the reds that I used.

Dimensions: 22 x 30
