Red Passion

This passion flower grows on a vine along the fence at Marie Selby Botanical Gardens in Sarasota, Florida. It is very beautiful as it sits in the dense dark green foliage with filtered light passing through the thick vegetation. In Canada, I see lavender-colored passion flowers in pots at the nursery and I know immediately that this is not their natural climate.

I decided to paint this floral with a majority of transparent staining colors. May's tip page demonstrates the process.

Dimensions: 16 x 20
