Red Beauty

Red sunflowers are not often seen. I found this one at a florist in the townships. I decided to use as many reds as possible to show the redness of the flower.

Quinacridone Gold and Winsor Blue and Winsor Green are the remainder of the palette. A number of the leaves were created negatively as the original background was green and blue. By returning into the negative space with blue and violet, I was able to find leaf shapes in the green. This painting was started as a demonstration and I could not resist completing it. Red is such a powerful color and can be difficult to work with.
