Every June, I look forward to the bursting forth of the oriental poppies in the corner of the garden. This year, it happened on a hot and humid day. I knew the poppies would last only a few hours. I decided to photograph them and plan the painting from the photos. The red in the poppies is truly a life force. A selection of reds in liquid acrylics would be the answer. They are transparent and very intense. The color, the brief time that they bloom, and the jauntiness of their poses are the inspiration for paintings and poetry.
