Phalaenopsis

Orchids have always been thought of as exotic and fragile. Their appearance will always have the look of far away lands even if they can be easily found here. Today, I have them growing in an east facing window and there is still snow on the ground. During the month of January, they may have been watered 2 or 3 times only while I was away. One of my phalaenopsis has bloomed 3 times in the last year.
This work was painted in watercolor using transparent staining colors for the dark ground and vase. The white on the orchid is the white of the paper. I enhanced the color depth of the background with acrylic inks.
