Lotus

"The Lotus has an unreal quality about it. It is the size of a dinner plate & rests at the top of a long stem. Like the waterlily, it grows in the water & has large leaves not unlike lily pads. The difference with the Lotus is that it stands about 18"-24" above the water's surface, as do the leaves. The Montreal Botanical Gardens has small pools in which the Lotus presents itself in mid-summer. In this work, I wanted to show the delicacy of the petals & the contrast of the large robust leaves. The Lotus is complex in design which contrasts beautifully with the simplicity of the leaves."
