Hidden Pond

This scene is a compilation of two sites that I visit in Florida in January. The difficulty with a tropical landscape lies in the simplifying of the scene. What element(s) will exhibit the sense of place? What should I eliminate?

The oak trees in the south are magnificent; there are hidden pools of water at both sites;
thick vegetation is everywhere. These were the elements that I chose for this work. It was executed in watercolor, acrylic, & a few finishing touches of dry pastel.

Dimensions: 15 x 27

Medium: mixed media
