Evening Barn


For the past few years, I have been returning to the Niagara area in May to take part in an art festival. One year, there was enough time to explore the countryside. The Niagara escarpment is rich in farms of fruit trees and grape vines. Driving over the rolling landscape, I came upon this barn set below a round mountain and surrounded by trees of every description. My camera and sketchbook travel with me. I took the shape of the barn from these references and created an environment and time of day to express the peace and warmth of day's end.
