Emerging Memory

While working on this painting, I had difficulty focusing on any one area. I was too involved with the warm yellows, oranges, & browns. Drastic measures had to be taken. I poured gesso on the top-middle area of the painting & smudged it with my hand. Then, I painted a transparent warm wash over the gesso. I saw the impression of an autumn forest & I framed it. I poured gesso on other parts of the work & other impressions became visible. Soon, I had a collage of memories & places.
