Degel/Thaw

At this time of year, a thaw is what we are hoping for. I find the snow and melting ice to have what I call a "terrible beauty". In watercolor, the white of the paper is very important for daytime scenes of winter. My challenge in painting winter scenes is to show some warm color and at the same time to present a dominant serene coolness.
