Awakening




A student presented this lily to me at the opening of our student exhibition. It was closed. When it opened, I placed it in the morning light of the kitchen window. The drama from the light created a perfect composition. I was trying a brand of watercolor that I was not familiar with. It was honey based and the pigment was very saturated, perfect for the strong colors that I needed. The painting was completed with the initial application of color and one layer of glazing.
