"and mellow fruitfulness"


When I walked into my class with this still life subject, there was an outcry of "oh, no". It is a subject that I gravitate to in the fall season, including using gourds as a centre piece on the dinner table. Looking at the arrangement, I thought of John Keats' wonderful, romantic, and masterful poem TO AUTUMN.

"Season of mists and mellow fruitfulness,
Close bosom-friend of the maturing sun,"
Immediately, I thought of creating two works about autumn, one a still life,
one a landscape, and both to visualize Keats' stirring words.
